Darlene Graham, a distinguished musician and educator, boasts a rich background in the world of Family Music. With dual Bachelor's degrees in Music and Music Education, as well as a Master's Degree in Music Education from Queens College, she has honed her skills to become a prominent figure on stages across Canada and the United States for over two decades.
Originating from Newfoundland, Canada, Darlene now calls Long Island, NY, home, where she resides with her husband and Co-songwriter, Chris, and their four children. Darlene's journey into Family Music began during her seven-year tenure as a K-6 music teacher. In the classroom, she infused music literacy and cultivated a love for the art form in young minds.
Inspired by motherhood, Darlene's passion for family music took root as she began composing and creating music for her own children. This personal initiative evolved into the development of two CDs, numerous concerts, and the establishment of the Rockin Tots music program, designed for the youngest ears. The culmination of these efforts resulted in the formation of Darlene Graham and the Shades of Green Band.
Darlene's prowess as a performer spans various styles and genres. Notable experiences include international tours with the Celtic trio Le Ceile, appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and "Sesame Street - Word on the Street," as well as performances in musicals, national tours, and international commercials.
At the heart of Darlene's music lies a dedication to music education. Her compositions are imbued with everyday family experiences, featuring fun, upbeat lyrics and rhythms aimed at inspiring families to move and play together. Beyond her stage performances, Darlene actively engages with elementary schools on Long Island through her PARP show, "Celebrate Reading through Music," and her anti-bullying production, "Stand Up for All!"
Darlene released her inaugural family CD, "Everybody Dance," followed by her latest release, "Big Hugs For Mama." Her music resonates with both children and parents, encouraging them to sing, dance, and move together, creating memorable and harmonious family experiences.
